If you're looking for the true Irish pub experience The General Humbert's is your best bet, it has everything an Irish pub should have, great music, Guinness and company, an ambience of bygone days, and great craic. Whether you are alone or with a group of friends, whether you wish to party or just want some light refreshment and good craic, you will feel thoroughly at home at The General Humbert's.

The bar is packed most evenings and at weekends it’s wall-to-wall with students, locals, and visitors from around Europe. Located in the historic heart of the city, it is a wonderful pub with a great atmosphere and a good mixture of locals and visitors alike.
The atmosphere is lively and convivial with very relaxed and friendly patrons populating the establishment and excellent service provided behind the bar.

The General Humbert's enjoys a great reputation for its great music with a mix of traditional Irish music, old rocks classics, and more contemporary pop-rock hits.

The General Humbert's also organises occasional traditional Irish or Celtic music, Rock and Blues live gigs.
Just ask the staff or check the notices displayed around the premises.
There is no cover charge for these live gigs, and the musicians do not have to be tipped or bought drinks.
Just sit back and enjoy!

Regular theme nights are organised throughout the year. Main events are listed on the pub's website at the following address: www.generalhumbert.com

Highlights are, of course, Saint Patrick's Day, on March 17th and the Halloween night on October 31st.

A good time to visit the pub would also be the end of February for the annual Brazilian night or the pub's birthday party, or in October for the annual German beers Oktoberfest week!

The General Humbert's has become a popular place for La Rochelle and foreign visitors alike, keen not only to view the worldwide sports, but also to enjoy a pubby sports atmosphere.

TV's are spread throughout the bar, so there's a pretty good chance you'll get a decent view of the live sports on offer!
Enjoy the best coverage and atmosphere for national & international sporting events on a numerous selection of LCD screens over a pint of Guinness. A 6 Nations Rugby Ireland vs France will be a unique experience!

The General Humbert's is an exciting venue to watch the 2007 Rugby World Cup. Surrounded by large screen TV's you're sure to feel the excitement of the game. No matter where you stand or sit you will not miss a single try, penalty-kick or drop goal.
Popular with the Stade Rochelais rugby pros at the weekends, The General Humbert's is a favourite meeting place for local sportsmen such as the Rupella17 basketball players or famous La Rochelle skippers.
The General Humbert's is also a kind of museum honoring great names in Irish sports history. Walls are adorned with pictures and jerseys signed by Keith Wood, Brian O'Driscoll, Willie John McBride, George Best, Denis Irwin, Brian Whelehan...

The General Humbert’s serves a broad selection of drinks including draught Guinness, Bass or Beck’s alongside a wide range of premium-bottled beers such as Erdinger or Bud and a good choice of mainly New World wines by the glass.
The welcoming staff can make a variety of tasty cocktails including the Pina Colada, the Mojito and Caïpirinha as well as a great Super Gin Tonic and the classical Gin Fizz.
On the shooter side you may want to try the Flaming Sambuca, B52 or Terminator.

During winter, passengers chilled by boat trips or long walks on the beach, will certainly enjoy an Irish coffee or perhaps, the more widely spread in Ireland, Hot Whiskey. Ladies may prefer a Baileys Coffee of Hot Port.

The General Humbert’s is reputed to sell the best pint of Guinness in the city, and it doesn't disappoint.

The so-called "Black list" is another originality... blasphemous for the Irish, but amusing for the English, American, Australian and New-Zealand visitors. It consists of different Guinness-based mixes served with 2 or 3 colour layers. Drink Guinness and other alcoholic beverages sensibly.
A perfect example is the local Stade Rochelais Rugby Club pint: Whiskey & orange with Guinness on top... yellow and black with white collar such as the La Rochelle rugby team jersey...

From September to June, Wednesday and Thursday nights numerous student parties are organised.

During those parties, visitors benefit from special prices all night long.

Chaque soirée peut être préparée "sur mesure".

A great night's drinking at the heart of the city, The General Humbert’s is well worth a look.
This family owned pub takes its name from the French expeditionary force under the command of General Humbert which on August 6th 1798 set sail from La Rochelle destined for Killala, Co. Mayo to provide military assistance to the Irish rebels of the "Rising of '98" in their attempt to free Ireland from English domination.

The walls are adorned with outstanding historical, sports, music and political memorabilia.
If walls could talk, there's a thousand books within this very building.
A unique gathering place definitely worth visiting.
